Baking a Delicious Swedish Apple Cake
Ingredients
Cake
1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup whole milk
3 large apples peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
Topping
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup sliced almonds optional
Instructions
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a
9-inch springform pan.
Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened
butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take
about 2-3 minutes.
Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully
incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking
powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture,
alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until
just combined.
Prepare Apples: Gently fold the sliced apples into the batter until evenly
distributed.
Pour into Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared springform pan, spreading it
out evenly.
Add Topping: In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and
the ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the cake. If
using, scatter the sliced almonds on top.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick
inserted into the center comes out clean. The top should be golden brown
and slightly crisp.
Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before
removing the sides of the springform pan. Let it cool completely on a wire
rack before serving.
