Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use a different cut of steak for this recipe?

Yes, you can use a different cut of steak that you prefer or have on hand.

While NY strip steak is recommended in the recipe, cuts like ribeye, sirloin, or filet mignon can also work well.

Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness and type of steak you choose.

How do I know when the steak is done to my liking?

The doneness of the steak will depend on your personal preference.

Use a meat thermometer to measure the internal temperature of the steak.

Generally, rare steak is around 125°F (51°C), medium-rare is about 135°F (57°C), medium is around 145°F (63°C), and well-done is about 160°F (71°C).

Can I substitute dried herbs for fresh ones?

Yes, you can use dried herbs instead of fresh ones, but keep in mind that dried herbs are more concentrated in flavor.

You’ll need to use a smaller amount of dried herbs compared to fresh herbs.

For example, use about 1/3 of the amount of dried herbs as specified for fresh herbs in the recipe.

How do I ensure the potatoes are cooked through?

To ensure the potatoes are cooked through, it’s important to cut them into smaller pieces so that they cook evenly and quickly.

Test the doneness of the potatoes by piercing them with a fork.

They should be fork-tender but not mushy.

Can I add vegetables to this skillet dish?

Absolutely, you can customize this dish by adding vegetables of your choice.

Bell peppers, onions, and zucchini are great options.

Add the vegetables to the skillet after the steak is cooked and before adding the potatoes back in.

This way, they’ll have a chance to cook and absorb the flavors of the steak and herbs.

How do I know when the potatoes are fork-tender?

Test the potatoes with a fork after cooking them for 3-5 minutes.

If the fork easily goes through the potatoes without much resistance, they are fork-tender.

Be careful not to overcook them, as they can become mushy.

What’s the best way to slice the steak into strips?

To slice the steak into strips, place it on a cutting board and use a sharp knife to cut against the grain.

Cutting against the grain helps to make the steak more tender. Slice the steak into strips that are about 1/2 to 1 inch wide.

Can I customize the herbs used in this recipe?

Absolutely, feel free to customize the herbs based on your preferences.

If you have other favorite herbs, you can use them in place of the ones mentioned in the recipe.

Just make sure to adjust the quantities to your taste.
